Local Improvements

Christian Clement received a $2,500 grant from council to open up the old Pioneer road that passes from Blue Sea, behind the cemetery, behind Lac Morrissette to Chemin Lac Long near Olivain Tremblay's barn. This road will be open to everyone including people on ATV's, skiidoos and there might be sleigh rides in the winter, and buggy rides in the summer. Christian Clement will also be opening up a sugar bush this coming winter which will be on or near the Pioneer road.

Council has given our lake association permission to clean up the Picnic grounds near the public access. We will be asking for volunteers to help clear out brush as well as fallen trees, garbage, Etc. Details concerning the date of the cleanup will follow.

Town council has organised an extravaganza for Blue Sea's 75th anniversary. For further details please refer to your copy of Blue Sea's newsletter or check out the municipality's announcement board for more details. On behalf of all members of APELL, we the executive would like extend best wishes to Blue Sea.

Contributing Articles

Again, we would like to remind all members of the association to feel free to submit articles for publication in upcoming newsletters. They can be written in either English or French and we will take care of translation.

Boating on Lac Latourelle

The Canadian waterways act limits the speed of any watercraft to 10 kilometres per hour within 30 meters of the shoreline. This is a polite reminder to keep the speeds down when you are near shore (which is just about everywhere on the lake!). If you are not sure how fast, or should I say slow 10 km/h is, try driving that speed in your car for a short distance. I think you will all be surprised.

Two signs will be installed shortly that will advise people to be cautious of swimmers. Please respect them. It would be a real shame to have to ask law enforcement to start to drop by to enforce boating regulations!

Municipality News

At the last municipal meeting, council decided to drop their request for a salary increase, on top of the one given by the province.

The mayor admitted at council that his comments concerning drunks disturbing meetings on Friday nights were not specifically directed towards cottagers. Unfortunately, the meetings will still remain on Monday nights.

The province of Quebec has started an initiative to amalgamate a significant number of smaller municipalities to reduce the number of municipalities throughout the province. Our president will be attending this *VERY* important meeting in order to keep abreast of any changes. If you have any topics that you would like brought up concerning the amalgamation, please contact Morris Richardson directly.

Blue Sea Council will be meeting with the presidents of all the lake associations within the municipality in early August. If you have any concerns you would like brought up, please contact Morris Richardson directly.

The new cottagers on Lac Morrissette are now approved to obtain passes for the local dump. Because they are in a rent-to-own situation, the title of the land officially remains under Laurier Lafontaine. Thanks to local council for deciding to give garbage passes to some of our newest members.

Regular french church services are held at the little chapel on chemin Lac Long near Lac des Iles. Times for the services at the chapel, as well as the Church in Blue Sea are available at all local depanneurs.

Lake Levels

Due to the higher than normal lake level, there seems to be a constant amount of debris floating in the lake, which more than a few boaters have hit. We ask that if you see floating debris, if you could pull it to shore (preferably to the public access), mark it if it is stationary, or notify one of the lake association executive who will ensure that it is taken care of promptly.

Fish Stocking

Unfortunately this year there is bad news concerning fish stocking. We have been denied any grants from the province for the following reasons:

It is sad, but you can't blame the province for saying No. What better way of deciding what areas to stock than to deny any areas that have had blatant poaching of fish !

There is still some positive news in that the ministry has promised to put us on the top of the list for next year, assuming of course that there are not more extreme incidences of poaching in the region this coming winter.

For those of you who have generously donated towards fish stocking, here are a couple of options:

Please contact Rita Lingen or Morris Richardson to inform her as to your wishes.

Meetings and Events

Date Event
August 5th This is the civic holiday in Ontario. This is also the date for the Blue Sea council's monthly meeting. Please try and attend, and show support for our association
August 10th Children's Day. This event will include lunch, horse & buggy rides, fishing and prizes. We would ask that people register with any member of the executive to hopefully give us an exact number of children who will be attending. We would also ask that there be *NO ALCOHOL* present at this event.
August 17th Adult Picnic. As usual this will be held at Steve Slaby's property (huge deck at the east end of the lake, next to Pat Whelan). For those of you coming by car, The address is 256 Chemin Lac Long. There is a small garbage container that is marked with "258"; just turn up that private road and watch for 256. We do not want to limit your freedom of expression, but please try and keep the bathing suits on this year, at least while younger children are present!!

Summer Bonfires

Two signs have been made that will be used to inform everyone when there are restrictions on bonfires. One sign will hang from the sign at the traverse du Lac Latourelle, and the other near Olivain Tremblay's residence.

Many thanks go to Raymonde Tessier for volunteering to monitor the fire restrictions and putting up and taking down the signs as well as town council and Olivain Tremblay for allowing the signs to be hung.

Environment News

The federation of Lake and River Associations of the Upper Gatineau asks all cottagers not to use pressure treated wood on or near water on any new construction for the following reasons:

For those of you shopping for an alternative, there are at least 3 people right in the Blue Sea municipality who sell cedar at reasonable prices. On top of supporting the local economy, you will not have to worry about transporting wood all the way from town.

Gossip Corner

At the last meeting, the powdered cream for the coffee that was donated was most unusual. Being polite association members, nobody commented on the fact that the cream didn't mix very well. It was not discovered until later that the powdered cream was actually pancake mix. Maybe that explains why people were asking for maple syrup!

In the evening of June 30th, celebrating Canada's birthday, several groups around Lac Latourelle gathered to watch fireworks. Although the humidity dampened some of the crackers, the spirit was there !!! The only small mishap was the falling of hot ember's on Morris' boat top; He now has an air-conditioned top, with quite a few pin holes for better circulation.

Congratulations to Cecile and Olivain Tremblay who are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary this fall, and Marie-Jeanne and Fabien Fortin who are celebrating their 45th Wedding Anniversary.

We would also like to say congratulations to Raymonde Tessier who got a hole in one while golfing in the spring.

One of our members observed people chasing the loons in a boat this year. Although the people may not intend to injure the birds, they are terrorising the birds and they may decide to not return to Lac Latourelle to serenade everyone at night. While Rita Lingen and Pat Whelan may come pretty close, I am sure that everyone would prefer to hear the real thing. So feel free to observe the birds, but try and keep a reasonable distance
