APELL - Volume 3 Issue 1

Welcome Back

The executive would like to take this opportunity to Welcome you all back for another season (except of course for those of you who never left, and enjoyed a great winter of snowmobiling !!!!).

By the time you get this letter, most of the snow should be gone, and (with any luck) the ice should be off the lake. Before you know it, everyone will be doing their spring cleaning and putting their water systems back !!!

Getting the 94 Season Off to a start

On Saturday March 26th, the Executive Committee had its first meeting to plan the events and meetings for the upcoming summer. The following is a tentative list of dates to mark down on your calendar

Date Event
May 14, 1994, 10:00 AM First General Meeting
August, 1994 Lake Cleanup Day (Organizer: Terry Moore)
July, 1994 Mid-summer Annual Meeting
September, 1994 Final General Meeting of the year; also Annual Lake Association Picnic (Organizer: Patrick Whelan)
September, 1994 Elections

Annual Picnic

Same day as the last general meeting, in the afternoon, tentatively scheduled for the public access picnic area, near the boat launch of Lac Long. (Organizer: Patrick Whelan)

Our general meetings will be held at the Salle des Loisirs just like last year. The hall is located south of Lac Long, along the Lac Long road. If you are not sure where it is located, please contact any of the executive committee, who would be happy to help you out.

If anyone has any other ideas for events that could be organized for all the members of the association, please give your suggestions to one of the executive committee

What has been Happening since last fall

You may have noticed that trees and brush have been cleared along Chemin Lac Long and new Hydro poles installed. Hopefully this will provide us with better service and less interruptions.

Rumour has it that there has been 7 new cottages built on our lake. We welcome the new owners and hope that they will join the association !!!

Membership Renewals

Yes, its that time again. Included with the newsletter is your renewal form for your membership for 1994. If you wish, you can return the form with a cheque in the amount of $15.00 to Steven Slaby, 695 Malibu Terrace, Ottawa, Ontario K2C 3T9, and your card will be ready for you at the spring meeting. If you prefer, you can renew and pay your membership at the meeting, in which case, I ask that you arrive a little earlier. Could you please fill in your address on the registration form, to ensure that we have your most up-to-date information possible.

As of last year, we had 53 active members in the association. We are hoping to recruit all new residents to the lake, so that the association will continue to represent the majority of owners at Lac Long.

Like last year, we are also inviting owners of Lac Morissette to join our association as non-voting members.

Lake Assciation T-Shirts and Maps

The hand-drawn map of the lake with depths plotted (done by Dave Nairn and Rejean Drouin) will be available at the General Meeting. Each member is allowed to have one copy for free. Any additional copies (or copies for non-members) will cost $1.00.

At Energy, Mines and Resources (EMR) on Booth street in Ottawa, you can purchase an topographical aerial map of our lake for a modest sum of money (around $8.50). The title of the map is Blue Sea Lake, and it is map number 31K/1. It is available at 135 Bentley Avenue (phone number 952-7000). Rumour has it that an Aerial map is also available for our lake from Energy, Mines and Resources on Booth street.

Lake Association Bulletin Board

At each general meeting, a bulletin board will be available for all members to post notes for items wanted/for sale, information, or whatever you wish, so long as it is not commercial in nature. If you wish to post something, we would ask that you come a little earlier to post it, and to remove it at the end of the meeting.

The executive committee is looking forward to seeing all of you, and hope you will be able to participate in the association for another hopefully successful year.

Attention Fishers

In order to get a better idea of the quantity and quality of fish that are caught in our lake, Terry Moore will distribute forms at the general meeting. We would ask that everyone who fishes take a copy, and fill it out each time they fish. This will help us in studying the fish population of the lake and return the forms to Terry.
