 Volume 19, No. 1   May 2010

Dear Members and Friends of APELL:

As another summer season at the lake gets underway, we would like to share some information about APELL's upcoming events and activities and encourage you to get involved in the important work your association will be doing in the months ahead.

Our first event of the 2010 season will be a potluck "Spring Social" on Saturday June 5th at 1:00 p.m. at 4 ch. Villeneuve (see map and directions below).  This will be an informal occasion to meet new neighbours, reconnect with old friends and share our favourite picnic recipes along with news and views about issues that affect us all, including water levels, development of new lots, property taxes and more.  There will be no agenda for this event... it's just a chance to have lunch together and catch up.

The first General Meeting will be held on Saturday June 19th from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Lac Long Recreation Centre and will include elections to fill the remaining vacancies on the Board Directors.  The General Meeting will be held in conjunction with a special meeting being organized by the Blue Sea Council for Lac Latourelle / Lac Long residents to discuss the water level in the lake and other matters.  The meeting with members of Council will get underway at 11:30 a.m.

APELL's annual lake-clean-up is scheduled for Saturday June 26th.  Volunteers are urgently needed to meet at the Public Access at 9:00 a.m. to help pull in floating logs and other debris that put both swimmers and boaters at risk.  Those with a boat or chain saw are especially welcome but all hands will be put to work.  A BBQ lunch will follow.  Please contact Jean-Pierre Gravel for more information at 819-463-0608.

One of the most important things the residents of Lac Latourelle / Lac Long can do to support APELL is to join the association or renew your membership.  A membership form is enclosed - please take a few moments to fill it in and return it with your 2010 dues, either by mail or at the General Meeting.  And pass the word along to your neighbours, especially those who may be new to the lake!

In addition to the financial support that your fees provide, strong membership figures send a signal to Council and the MRC that our community is working together to maintain and improve the quality of the lake environment, and seeks to be consulted on issues of interest to its members.  As residents and property owners, we share a strong interest in anything that affects the natural environment because it is such a big factor in determining property values and our enjoyment of our homes and cottages.

This year, there are a number of issues that APELL will be following closely, seeking and providing information to keep you well-informed, and where appropriate, making representations to the various levels of government.  These issues include:

APELL is marking its 18th anniversary this year, an opportunity to consider the contributions that the group has made to the quality of the environment and the quality of life on Lac Latourelle / Lac Long over almost two decades and to reflect on the importance of maintaining a strong, active lake association as we approach our 20th anniversary in 2012.  We hope that you will support APELL's work in 2010 by becoming a member, attending events, lending a hand or joining the Board.

Looking forward to seeing you at the lake!

Sincerely,

Members of the APELL Board of Directors for 2010

The Spring Social will be held on Saturday, June 5th at 1:00 p.m. at 4, ch. Villeneuve (home of Jacques Laberge).  Everyone is welcome! Please bring a potluck dish and your own beverages.

4 ch. Villeneuve
